The blaze broke out around midnight at a home on Westcott Street, where firefighters found flames and heavy smoke billowing from the first floor of a 2.5-story home, initial reports say.
The fire was considered under control around 1:50 a.m. No further details were immediately available.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said officials were working to identify the victim as of 10:30 a.m.
