BOGGS TOWNSHIP - A former Boggs Township employee in Clearfield County has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the township and two of its supervisors, claiming she was fired for reporting misconduct by one of the supervisors.
Denise Dobo and her attorney filed the suit Jan. 22, a couple weeks after supervisors Rickey Droll Jr. and Russell Jackson terminated her employment as the township secretary and treasurer.
Dobo said in the suit that she was fired because she reported to fellow supervisor Bill Dickson, the township solicitor and the state ethics commission that she believed Droll misused township funds by using them to buy car parts at a Napa store.
Droll was charged in the case and appeared in court in September, where Dobo testified against him. According to court records, Droll entered a guilty plea Jan. 25 and is currently scheduled to be sentenced March 6.
According to the suit, Droll and Jackson, the latter of whom was newly elected, voted to terminate Dobo's contract January 2 of this year.
Dickson, who voted against Dobo's termination, was himself terminated as a roadworker for the township.
Dobo is seeking damages including reinstatement to her position, back wages and benefits, compensatory damages and costs of litigation. She had been employed by the township for nearly 33 years prior to her firing.
Township Solicitor Heather Bozovich said Pittsburgh firm Marshal, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman and Goggin will be representing the township.
