Penn State students celebrate State Patty's Day

State Patty’s is in full swing in downtown State College and local police said they feel confident in their plan to make sure things stay under control.

State Patty’s is a way for Penn State students to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, since that will be during their spring break.

Students said that they, and select others, celebrate in downtown State College while hosting visitors for the weekend.

Businesses are seen with lines out the door, and students said they expect to be celebrating all throughout the night.

The State College Police Department, along with Penn State, said they will continue to have a strong presence throughout the day.

The university and the State College Borough said certain rules exist to minimize dangerous activities. These include limited fraternities from having social events and only allowing students living in dorms to have one guest.

One local bar owner says they have to be extra vigilant when checking IDs to avoid letting in someone underage.

Officials said it’s important to remember to stay hydrated and know your limits as it gets later in the day.
