Taking inspiration from such games as Dark Souls and the developer’s own Darksiders series, Remnant: From the Ashes is not a particularly easy game. Death will come quickly and often throughout your time spent in the Root infested wasteland of this post apocalyptic world. And while changing the difficulty is an option it’s pretty hidden away and comes with some severe costs. Nevertheless, if you’re struggling you will want to know how to change difficulty in Remnant: From the Ashes.
The answer isn’t hidden within the options menu like you might expect. This is because changing the difficulty in Remnant can’t be done while maintaining your current save file and world setup. Large sections of this game are procedurally generated, and if you want to lower or even raise the challenge level you’ll have to reset all of this.
This is done by going to Ward 13, to the large glowing checkpoint found there and selecting World Settings. Here you can “reroll” your particular world. Your character will come with you, but everything else will be reset and all random elements will be rerolled so that they are totally different this time around. After choosing this option you are able to select from three difficulty levels: normal, hard, and Nightmare.
The differences are exactly what you’d expect with enemies getting progressively tougher and more frequent depending how high you go on the challenge. Thankfully all of your character traits will travel with you to this new rerolled world, so you’ll start with a leg up. Think of it as New Game+ in a lot of ways, only with actual parts of the game reset and changed around as well. Whether it’s how you want to do it or not, that’s how to change difficulty in Remnant: From the Ashes.
