Steelers' TJ Watt named team MVP

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt has been named as the team's Most Valuable Player for the 2019 season, according to steelers.com.

The accolade was voted upon by his fellow teammates who believe this should not be the only honor that Watt receives by season's end.

“He is having an amazing season. A defensive player of the year season,” said fellow outside linebacker Bud Dupree. “Hopefully he gets that award at the end of the year. It would be great for him and the whole unit.

“He’s had a great year,” said Mark Barron. “It’s obvious to the people around here who have been paying attention to what is going on with Pittsburgh football. He has been dominating each and every week. He has been going out and being a catalyst for this team, making plays, taking the ball away. He’s had an incredible year.”

Watt IS one of the contenders for Defensive Player of Year, and was among five Steelers players that were selected to play in the Pro Bowl at the end of the season.

He is also on pace to break the team's single season sack record which is currently held by James Harrison who recorded 16 sacks during the 2008 season.

Watt is just two sacks shy of tying Harrison's record with one regular season game remaining.

The Steelers will play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 4:25 p.m. on CBS.
