Warden says Clearfield County Prothonotary attempting to draw him into public discussion

CLEARFIELD - The warden of the Clearfield County Jail said he has been drawn in to the dispute between Clearfield County judges and the county's prothonotary, Brian Spencer.

In a letter to Spencer, Warden Greg Collins said that Spencer has drawn him into the discussion by not seeking requests from the warden by a "professional means," but by providing his letter to the warden in the media.

The warden said he will not engage in the public discussion over the dispute.

"I have been employed in administrative positions at the Clearfield County Jail for 21 years and have never experienced the problems that we have been having in regard to the receipt from the Clerk of timely and properly field Orders and documents," said Collins.

The dispute started after Judges Fredric Ammerman and Paul Cherry said Spencer's office has been behind logging paperwork in regard to paperwork being delayed for sentences and other court filings in Clearfield County.

The judges claim the problem started in February when Spencer fired a long-time employee.

Spencer said the judges motives are politically as he is up for re-election. The judges adamantly deny any political motive.
